Dr.Sivashanker, Ph.D. (Cambridge), CEng, MIMechE, FEANI, P.Eng (S'pore)

Eur.Ing. Dr. S. Sivashanker is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and a First-class Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore. A/Prof Sivashanker is a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) of the Professional Engineers Board (PEB), Singapore and is authorized to engage in professional engineering work in Singapore within the branch of Mechanical Engineering. In Singapore, he has also served as the Hon. Treasurer and Assistant Secretary of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Eur.Ing. Dr. S. Sivashanker is a NTU overseas faculty scholar with a strong theoretical and experimental background in the mechanics modeling of advanced composite materials.

He has numerous international publications in leading engineering journals of archival merit with more than 140 citations to his credit. His research interests include, but are not limited, to the design optimization of adhesively-bonded composite joints, development of a framework for the failure prediction of composite biomedical prosthesis, modeling of the compressive failure of advanced aerospace composites and instrumented high-strain-rate impact (Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar) testing of aerospace composites.

He has been a Visiting Professor at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Technology Laboratory for Advanced Composites (TELAC), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), U.S.A. and AO Research Institute, Switzerland.

Prior to his stint at Cambridge, A/Prof Sivashanker worked as an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer at the Singapore Technologies Aerospace, Engineering Design Center (EDC), and Aircraft Structures Division in the Computational Structures group. Apart from teaching and researching composite materials for the past 10 years, Eur.Ing. Dr. S. Sivashanker has vast industry consulting experience on composite materials providing expert advice on composite materials on numerous occasions. Eur.Ing. Dr. S. Sivashanker has also successfully conducted the RSAF-NTU Common Air Platform Engineers (CAPE) Course on Aerospace Composite Materials for Modern Aircraft Structures, Materials for past 4 years and has received excellent feedback on all his seminars.
